Welcome Home: Breanna Penrod Shares the Story Behind Her Timeless Blue Nursery

There's something incredibly special about preparing a nursery. It's more than choosing furniture and décor—it's creating a space where first cuddles, bedtime stories, and countless family memories will unfold.

She envisioned a nursery that felt timeless, warm, and designed to grow alongside her son. From a classic blue color palette to heirloom-quality wood furniture, every detail was thoughtfully chosen with both beauty and functionality in mind.

In this exclusive interview, Breanna, aka @bremaye, shares the inspiration behind her nursery, the pieces she couldn't live without, and the advice she would give to parents creating a space they'll cherish for years to come.

Creating a Timeless Blue Nursery

How did you decide on the color scheme for the room?

I was so excited to start nesting for our baby boy. I always pictured doing a classic blue color scheme for my first boy, so that was kind of my starting point. The rug was actually the first thing I ordered, and I built the whole room around that. From there, I just kept finding pieces that tied into those tones and it all came together really naturally.

Choosing Furniture That Grows With Your Family

Tell us a little about the Simply Nursery pieces you chose and what led you to them.

When I started looking for a crib and dresser, I knew I wanted something sustainable that would last through multiple kids. I also really loved the idea of a crib that could grow with our son. That’s what led me to the Cali Convertible Crib in Hazelnut. I fell in love with the wood finish and knew it would look so good with everything else in the room.

I wanted the dresser to match, so I chose the Mid Century 6 Drawer Dresser in the same finish. It felt really durable, and I knew I wanted to use it as our changing station, so having a big, functional top was important for diapers, wipes, and everything we’d need.

The Little Details That Make It Feel Like Home

Is there a specific feature or detail in the nursery that makes it unique?

I love all the patterns in our nursery. There’s a lot going on, but the consistent wood tones between the crib and dresser really balance everything out and keep it feeling calm. It still feels fun and layered without being overwhelming.

I also love our rocking chair. The tan gingham pattern is such a fun touch and feels a little different.

Designing for Real Life

How did you balance practicality and aesthetics?

My husband was really focused on making sure everything was practical, and I definitely cared more about how it looked, so it ended up being a great balance.

We talked through things like late-night diaper changes and what layout would actually make sense in real life. Now that our baby is here, I’m so glad we did that. The room functions really well, but it still feels beautiful and like a space I love being in.

Breanna's Advice for Parents Designing Their Nursery

Based on your experience, what advice would you give to someone designing their nursery?

Enjoy the process! It can feel stressful, especially with your first, trying to make sure you have everything and that it all looks good, but it’s such a special time.

I’m really glad I slowed down and enjoyed creating his space. It’s fun to think about all the memories you’ll make in that room.
